My Foot(y)print

You can tell a lot through My Foot(y)print

The beauty of My Foot(y)print is it can quickly tell other fans the football person you are. Think about it for a second and how that actually works. Having played for certain clubs in certain leagues generally carries a reputation for something, whether it’s tough or maybe even a red-hot standard. Our favourite players reflect who we want to be and the style of play we appreciate most. The memorable footy moments are often famous events or incidents we saw firsthand and can proudly boast those three magic words: “I was there!”

By opening up to another footy fan on just this handful of things, you’re actually telling them much more. You’re giving them a very concise summary of your football life; the games you’ve played and watched, the players you’ve seen and the history-making footy moments you’ve witnessed have been distilled into one piece of paper. Because of this, I think My Foot(y)print should be mounted in the bar, pool room or man cave of every Expat home.

What’s your My Foot(y)print look like? Why not have a go by using the My Foot(y)print form in the Expat Stuff area of the Social Club.

Note: You may have noticed the fact I’m a Collingwood supporter. Don’t stop reading in disgust! More importantly, I’m an Expat like you and I’m on your side!

It’s funny what becoming an Expat can do to people. Everyone is different, but there are definitely several common traits that kick into gear once your new life begins. A good example is Expats typically become more nostalgic and like to spend more time reflecting on what the game means to them. I know I certainly do!

What sort of fan are you?

An area I’ve always found fascinating is the idea of unique stamp people leave on football and football leaves on them. The teams they played for, their favourite players and the footy moments they cherished more than others. One way of looking at it is: if you disappeared tomorrow and people asked what sort of footy person you were, what would others say? How would they describe you?

Over the years I’ve noticed this type of personal profile is usually captured though the same key questions everyone asks. You know the ones that always pop up at BBQs or down the pub – sometimes leading to hours of heated debate. Because I’ve heard these asked so many times and been a part of countless similar conversations, I’ve actually come up with a name for it. I call it My Foot(y)print.
